With the widespread adoption of remote work, one concern remains top of mind for people: finding an area where they can live and work simultaneously. So, what are the top-rated locations for remote work?

Sascha Segan compiled economic, cultural, and demographic factors and internet speed measurements to compose an article detailing the best work-from-home cities in the US and Canada. He discovered that Philadelphia offers affordable living for city-goers, while the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, Baltimore and Maryland are known for their diverse populations. Sascha ranked Chattanooga, Tennessee, as the #1 place to live while working remotely due to its affordable real estate, business-friendly administrations, and widely available broadband internet. Whether you prefer cityscapes or quiet country living, Sascha’s article has all the information you need to accommodate individual work styles and preferences.

Tune in to this episode of What The Teck? as Rolando Rosas and Dave Kelly welcome Sascha Segan, former Lead Mobile Analyst for PCMag, to discuss the top places to live while working from home. Rolando Rosas 0:29

the asked man could see see, it seems like it’s forever, you know and we don’t we don’t get you know maybe we gotta go to like a daily format on this what we put something out every day

Dave Kelly 0:38

we should no reason no reason why we can’t

Rolando Rosas 0:43

You got that right, you got that right? Well, you know we were this if you’re watching this now you’re you’re going to be in for a treat, we’ve got a special guest today that will break down remote working and where you would want to live, if you will need really good internet. And if that’s important to you, amongst a bunch of other things. You’ll want to hear what Sascha has got to say about this. So before we get to Sascha, and all the interesting things that he’s written about, Dave, do we have a trivia question?

Dave Kelly 1:16

I believe we do have a trivia question. And I would like to find it.

Rolando Rosas 1:26

But I shouldn’t on the screen, you will not find it.

Dave Kelly 1:29

I knew it was on. I knew it was on here somewhere. All right. Well, I have to take it from the ticket from the screen. So sorry. So for our trivia question, what we’d like to ask is, which city is the number one rated city by PCMag for remote working?

Rolando Rosas 1:48

So I have my favorite in there.

Dave Kelly 1:50

I have my favorite in there, too. And I’m thinking about packing up and moving out. Because I’ve never, I’ve never even really considered it. What I really love about this particular topic. And this article that was written is some really smart options here. You know, a lot of these areas I haven’t necessarily thought about. And now it’s like, wow, there’s some really wonderful places that I could really consider relocating.

Rolando Rosas 2:15

Well, he’s certainly covered a lot of the geography, this their cities in the south, their cities in the south. On the west coast. There’s one I got to ask him about that. The it seems like there’s a lot in the south, Midwest, several in the northeast, surprisingly, some of these some, some may not. Some may have been left out, right. So northeast cities. There’s some Canadian cities in there. So some Canadians. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, very interesting. So let’s, let’s, let’s talk to our let’s let our audience in on who we’re bringing in. So we’ve got Sascha, from a Sascha Segan. From and I hope I pronounced that correctly is Segan or Segan, will he’ll correct me if I’m wrong. From PCMag, he writes. And if you haven’t read his pieces, they’re amazing. He’s the lead mobile analyst for PCMag. He writes about 5g. He’s written this wonderful piece about remote work and the best cities to work. He writes about the carriers and the technologies that they’re rolling out in the mobile on the mobile side. And without further ado, let’s just bring on Sascha, let’s get right into it with him. All right, guys. Hey, Sascha. Hey, Sascha, did I get your last name? Correct? It’s Segan, Segan, gotcha. All right. I stand corrected. Sascha Segan

Sascha Segan 3:39

so okay, there was a really famous Segan. So people generally go towards that first.

Rolando Rosas 3:46

All right. Well, welcome for joining us today. Where are you joining us today from?

Sascha Segan 3:52

So I am in my home office, here in Queens in New York City, NY. Yep. Where I’ve been working for more than a year now. I was always a go into the office in Manhattan every day guy. But of course, we closed our offices mid March of last year, and they have not reopened yet.

Rolando Rosas 4:15

Well, it’s let’s just let’s just talk about that for a moment. So. So back to offices is becoming also a topic that’s starting to get talked about. Some states have done a better job with vaccine, vaccinations and employers are feeling a little bit more confident in what’s happening in that situation right now, as of this taping, and what’s the what’s this discussion been like for PCMag and bringing folks back to the office?

Sascha Segan 4:42

Yeah, so PCMag is taking this very gently, and very tentatively, because fortunately, a lot of us almost all of us can work adequately from home. There’s only a couple of guys who review very large objects that they can’t fit into their houses. primarily big screen TVs, and large format printers who need to go somewhere other than their house to actually get that done. So for the rest of us, the company is taking a very gently saying when we’re comfortable when we’re vaccinated, probably they’re not going to ask about that. I think maybe they can’t ask about that. I think maybe that’s some sort of legal rule. But when we’re comfortable, probably later this summer, they will offer some options for us to start going back and if we want to, but we’ve done so well at transitioning to work from home at PCMag, and we’ve put out such good content over the past year that the company doesn’t treat it as terribly urgent.
